Firdous Ashiq Awan, special assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting, “donated” blood in order to raise awareness about thalassemia patients.
However, it managed to raise more controversy than awareness as the donation itself was “fake” and was termed as “symbolic blood donation”.
In an about three-minute ‘blood donation’ activity, a foundation official first registered her on the ‘Blood Donors Registration Card’. A doctor even placed an infusion set without a needle on her arm, showing as if she was donating the blood (which she wasn’t).

The hospital said they needed the minister’s pictures and footage just to signify the importance of donating blood for thalassaemic patients and assisting in their treatment.
However, the drama didn’t go well with the netizens and they were quick to denounce this staged show.
I am a blood donor & every time I donate blood, it brings me more good physical health and n immense mental pleasure that I am saving a life

Exactly! As a PTI supporter I am disgusted by these stunts. ImranKhan must realize that this is getting out of hand. There are real consequences to his party’s actions and so far they are proving to be life threatening for people who struggle to make ends meet.

After all the frenzy her feigned blood donation caused, Firdous Ashiq Awan took to Twitter and expressed her disappointment at some media outlets for blowing the story out of proportion.

Addressing a press conference in Sialkot, she said she participated in a function of Sundas Foundation, organized for collection of blood donations for hemophilia and thalassemia patients on the death anniversary of Munnu Bhai.
“They requested me for a photoshoot while donating blood for their brochure to encourage people to take part in the noble cause,” Dr. Firdous said explaining that it was just a photo shoot and she did not donate blood in reality.
But, she added, later on, that photo was used by the opponents for propaganda on the social media, which was disappointing.
She also added that she has donated 22 bottles of blood previously to the same foundation. Making fun of our good traditions of taking care of hemophilia and thalassemia patients through blood donations was really condemn-able.
