While India and Pakistan are on the verge of fighting another war, social media has already turned into a battlefield.
Right after the Pulwama attack, social media activists from both the countries took over the social platforms and started attacking each other with memes, hashtags, comments, abuses and what not!
Indian hackers tried hacking the Pakistani websites and amid all that craziness, someone got this idea of hacking google search.
When searched for “best toilet paper in the world”, google search started showing Pakistani flag as the top result.
This is not the first time Google has done it. Last year, the search engine displayed Donald Trump’s images when the word idiot was searched. Prior to this Narendra Modi was shown when searched for the ‘Top 10 Criminals’.
We don’t mind that though.
Soon after it started trending on social media, Google clarified what actually happened.
“While we continue to investigate the matter, we have not found any evidence that Google Images was ranking the Pakistani flag in response to this particular search. Many news outlets wrote about an old screenshot from a meme website that is inconsistent with our UI and dates back to 2017, and we have not seen any independent verification that these results ever appeared as depicted,” Google said in a statement.
“Since these news stories published, images from those articles are now ranking for this query, as the pages contain words relevant to the search,” it further said.
So according to Google, it was the meme that went viral and was shared so many times that it automatically started showing in the google search.
